It is my pleasure to write you in anticipation of the 2016 Homecoming festivities at the Psi Upsilon chapter house. We hope that all brothers, family members, and guests will join us at the curved house for the annual celebration.
After the positive feedback of last year’s “Welcome Home” theme and displays, this year we will be featuring displays on the Omicron Chapter and Illinois campus during World War II. We hope to provide some insight on what campus life was like during the war years, how the chapter and alumni association flexed to stay viable in light of a diminished number of men on campus, and, most importantly in my opinion, feature pictures and information on the nine brothers whose names reside on the bronze tablet hanging in the solarium. While I know we have all walked by that tablet (and some may have even attempted to polish it), hopefully this will be an opportunity to shine some light on those brothers who gave it all.
The Homecoming celebration will kick off on Friday, October 28, at 3:34 pm with our happy hour returning to Kam’s, in response to requests to return to that venue. Following Kam’s, please join us at the house. Saturday morning will feature the traditional complementary breakfast followed by the fall alumni meeting. At 11:00 am our Fighting Illini will face off against the Golden Gophers. A block of tickets is available, please see information below. After the game, we will have the awards ceremony, take the group photo, and enjoy a complementary BBQ dinner. If you need a place to stay, a block of rooms is available at the Hawthorne Suites. We hope you take advantage of this time to catch up with old friends, meet some new ones, converse with our great undergraduates, and meet the pledges of the Class of 2020. Tips collected during beverage service at the Chapter House throughout the weekend will be donated to the Little Giraffe Foundation, dedicated to funding neonatal research and supporting patients and parents of the NICU. The organization was founded by Brother Michael Santoro ‘03 and wife Amanda.
While all are welcome to come celebrate throughout the weekend, we have to limit complementary food and drink to members who have paid their annual dues and their guests. Annual dues may be paid using the attached form or by using donation envelopes available at the door during the festivities. Football tickets are offered at cost plus a modest payment processing fee, therefore their purchase does not count towards annual dues.
Head to Champaign for a good game, great friends, and prove you’ll ne’er forget the days of Auld Lang Syne.
