In any human service field, it is important to practice ethical behavior. Though prevention specialists are not working in a clinical setting, ethics are still a crucial part of effective and quality prevention services. Join us as we explore Ohio’s Code of Ethics for Certified Prevention Specialists and take a special look at scope of practice issues. Case study applications will further enhance attendee comprehension. Special focus will be directed in areas of confidentiality and copyright laws.

Objectives:

  • Participants will gain a clear understanding of the definition, targets and scope of prevention in relation to the continuum of care.
  • Participants will explore what governs their behavior, including laws, code of ethics, employer rules, rules per service setting, etc.
  • Participants will gain a clear understanding of the Code of Ethics for prevention professionals.
  • Participants will understand the importance of not practicing outside the prevention scope of practice and how to handle situations if they are dually credentialed.
  • Participants will understand when confidentiality laws apply to prevention practice.
  • Participants will understand the basic parameters which govern utilizing copyrighted materials.
  • Participants will be able to apply the Code of Ethics to various case study scenarios.
  • Participants will understand the procedures of the OCDPB in regards to ethics complaints and violations.
