Networking Training Outline

The people you need to know

Guests lists at business events are frequently displayed . It is worth taking a look at the list and deciding who you would like to talk to. The goal is to get acquainted with the person and for them to get to to know you. When you approach the person , introduce yourself and give your "business pitch," which is a brief description of your expertise and how it can benefit your target. If they are lucky, they will be open to your pitch and willing to do business with you. If they aren't, then keep trying and don't be discouraged . Learning from your mistakes is the key to success in business. You don't have to repeat the mistakes you made in a business pitch failure. However, you should not react negatively to your mistakes and label actions that were right as mistakes. Don't lose heart if you are left with nothing. Talk to another company, or try again at another event. You can sell your expertise well enough to get it bought, even if they are not the highest level of contact. Mike, for example, wants to grow his network. He puts himself out at a business fair and targets James, an architect mogul. His company's high-quality concrete and support beam materials may be of interest to James. James purchases Mike's building materials. They conduct business and James now knows how to contact Mike when he needs them. Both of their networks are expanded, and they can now help one another. Mike will not be discouraged if it doesn't happen. He will continue to improve his pitch and pitch people to whom he hopes to build business relationships. This session also includes many other examples.

Keep the bond strong

We will discuss the three types of networks: professional, social and artificial . Your social network is your personal network for business or social ventures. These contacts can include family, friends and former colleagues. Your professional network includes people you have made in business for business like clients, lawyers, or current colleagues. Your artificial network, which is a group of business people you are part of, is open to new members and trade associations. This could be LinkedIn or Facebook, or Twitter. You may have many contacts in all these networks. But success is not just about the number of contacts; it's also about the quality of your contacts. The quality of your network depends on how friendly and pleasant you are with each person. Your bonds will eventually wither and cease to exist if you don't keep them. Kim may meet Jeremy, the manager of a high-quality fast food restaurant, and manages to convince him to accept her pitch. She never calls him again, and Kim is left in a desperate situation. Kim remembers that Jeremy has all the resources she needs, but she cannot contact him. He would consider it her using him for his position if he only contacts her when she is in crisis. It is important to remember that business success is not a solo endeavor. It is a team effort. If your team is larger and stronger, it will be harder to let you down. We discuss building a strong team.

Reciprocate

With examples of case studies, we show you how important it is to reciprocate. In the worlds of networking and business, sincere gestures and willingness learn from others can make a big difference. It is often to make contact with someone more powerful or have more resources. A larger network means more money and more resources for those in need. Remember that there are people attached to your success. Don't let their desires blind you. Remember that they are giving you a favor by taking your pitch. As a gesture of goodwill, send them your products and offer your resources to them. This is investing in a person. It is essential to make an investment in each contact. This builds your relationship with them and makes you more attractive to others. This creates an cumulative effect where other contacts want to get to know and invest in you. Cliff and Trevor network together, and Cliff is the most successful. Cliff accepted his business pitch. In return, Trevor offered more of his services to Cliff and some of it free of charge on a certain basis. Cliff is happy he accepted Trevor's pitch. This allows him to invest further in Trevor and builds a strong network. You don't have to buy your contacts a drink, but you can offer them a discount and other benefits. Your contacts will be more generous if you are generous. This and other forms are discussed during the session.
