Monday, 4 June 2018 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM CST

Deaconess Center for Child Well-Being, 1000 N. Vandeventer Avenue, St. Louis, MO, 63113, United States.

We know that today’s philanthropic leaders face complex decisions about community impact, personal values, and organizational alignment — all while trying to navigate internal practices that often aren’t inclusive of diverse stakeholders or focused on increasing equity. So how might funders practice their values in action in the day-to-day work of grantmaking?

Join your peers in philanthropy to gain more clarity on your own values and grantmaking practice at “Equity and Justice in Philanthropy: Values in Action,” a pre-conference institute hosted by Neighborhood Funders Group. This interactive and inspiring full day session for grantmakers will foster deep peer learning and provide concrete tools and skills to advance diversity, equity, and justice.

Pre-Conference Institute, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Cocktail Reception, 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Participants will:

  • discuss the nuances of creating values-alignment in grantmaking;
  • identify both transitional and transformational pathways for themselves and their institutions; and
  • define clear action steps for pursuing equity and justice internally and externally

This pre-conference institute will be an opportunity for local, regional, and national funders to learn from and with each other, with guidance toward tangible and practical shifts to best respond to these times. Topics will feature organizational and grantmaking case studies in the Midwest and across the country, explore internal “DEI” processes, and delve into specific practices that support (or potentially undermine) racial, social, economic, and gender justice.

If you are unable to attend the full day session, please join us for a cocktail reception after the session! The reception follow immediately after the session and will also be held at the new Deaconess offices on Monday, June 4, starting at 4:30 pm.

Training will be presented by Justice Funders, the national outgrowth of the Bay Area Justice Funders Network and a core partner of Neighborhood Funders Group (NFG). This session will offer curricula and tools from their highly successful Harmony Initiative.

This event is a pre-conference session for NFG’s 2018 National Convening in St. Louis. The NFG National Convening will provide an opportunity for grantmakers to engage across issues, geographies, communities, and strategies.

As a network of over 100 philanthropic institutions, NFG invites funders to join in sharing models and forming alliances with the goal of moving resources to support innovative place-based work led by and benefiting communities of color and low-income communities.

Note: NFG's 2018 National Convening and Pre-Conference Institute are intended for funders only.
