Please join us for this exciting new group, which will combine elements of mindfulness education and practice with other common needs of new parents, like refreshers on how to soothe or swaddle baby, coping with sleep deprivation and enhancing healthy sleep for baby, understanding newborn stages of development, feeding challenges, self care, identity shifting, relationship changes and maintenance, and much more.

Each group series lasts one month, with a series consisting of four weekly 2 hour sessions,  facilitated by Rebecca Plum, LM, CPM, IBCLC .  We will open each session with 20 minutes of education, practice and discussion of mindfulness theory and techniques, exploring how to apply them to the postpartum experience, then will spend the remainder of our time in open discussion on topics relevant to new parents, offered by either myself or group members.

John Kabat-Zinn calls mindfulness "paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and without judgement."  Mindfulness practice in the context of parenting can be a profound and powerful tool in becoming the parent you want to be by embracing and accepting the parent that you are.

Benefits of mindfulness practice include:

  • Reduced stress & increased skill in coping with stress
  • Reduced risk or severity of postpartum depression and anxiety
  • Enhanced bonding with baby
  • Enhanced parenting and relationship skills
  • Increased kindness, curiosity & compassion for self, baby & others

Each session will offer a new mindfulness tool for us to practice and discuss, as well as plenty of time for discussion of common parenting issues and challenges.  Join us for a one month series, and come back for as many as you'd like!

Please note that each series lasts four weeks.  The registration program will place the group on the first date only, but the fee covers all dates listed in the heading.

Scholarships may be available; please email Rebecca at rebecca@hearthstonemidwifery.com for more information.
