Philly Shipyard is a leading U.S. commercial shipyard constructing vessels for operation in the U.S. Jones Act market, which requires all commercial vessels transporting merchandise between ports in the United States to be built, owned, operated and manned by U.S. citizens and to be registered under the U.S. flag. Philly Shipyard possesses a state-of-the-art shipbuilding facility and has earned a reputation as the preferred provider of oceangoing merchant vessels.
CLASS
Students grades 8 -12 are welcomed to join us for a day at the Aker Shipyard. They will receive an introduction on who it is and what it does. The students will also learn about the major engineering program and work a hands-on activity with a top marine mechanical engineer to provide a cursory understanding of the purpose of the shipyard. Students will learn the difference between academic and technical routes to the maritime industry and will each leave with a memento/swag bag.
