Tuesday, 28 June 2022 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM BST

The Kensington Aldridge Academy, 1, London, England, W10 6EX, United Kingdom.

The Rugby Portobello Trust invites you to an evening of music with internationally renowned pianist Melvyn Tan, hosted by author and journalist Emily Maitlis joined by presenter and journalist Jon Sopel.

Melvyn will be returning to the venue where he played in support of the North Kensington community, exactly three weeks before the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. Please join us as we mark the five-year anniversary, bringing Melvyn back to Kensington Aldridge Academy in support of the children and young people of North Kensington.

The North Kensington community was still dealing with the impact of the fire as we were thrust into the Covid-19 pandemic. As we emerge from the uncertainties of the pandemic, our focus has been on supporting the mental wellbeing of our community, helping to build their resilience as we face increasing costs-of-living and up-skilling our community to close the digital divide that was highlighted as the world moved online.

This year’s Midsummer Music will raise more than £40,000 to continue our mental health support, to run employment and skills-building workshops with our young people and to continue our digital inclusion work, ensuring everyone in our community has the skills and knowledge to access online resources safely.

Rugby Portobello Trust

The Rugby Portobello Trust is a children's, youth and family support charity that has been supporting the local community for over 135 years. We provide a range of activities to help children and young people in our community to build confidence, expand their horizons and realise their potential. As we emerge on the other side of Covid-19, the road ahead is far from clear. The young people, children and families who we support are struggling in a post-pandemic landscape that is blighted by mental and physical health issues and rising costs of living. In spite of the lifting of restrictions, we anticipate that the next 12 months of recovery will be some of the hardest yet. RPT is determined to remain agile and adaptable to the changing needs of our community. Alongside bolstering our mental and physical health support across all our services, we are currently working with a number of Afghani refugees to deliver English language lessons, help with assimilation and offer holistic care. With your support, we can continue to help those in our community to adapt and thrive in a world that is markedly different from two years ago.
