Prerequisite: Mediation Skills and Process or an equivalent 20-hour basic mediation training
This workshop provides mediators an intensive highly-interactive experience to reinforce and build their mediation skills. It is designed to be a bridge from the classroom to the hands-on practice of mediation for those who have recently completed basic training as well as a refresher for those already practicing. The class builds the participants’ mediator toolkits while also satisfying the observation requirement for the Virginia General District Court Mediator Certification.

Instructor bios:
Jim Meditz is a Supreme Court of Virginia certified mentor mediator. He also provides services as a facilitator, instructor/trainer, consultant, and conflict management coach for diverse clients, including cases before Virginia courts; parties in employment and EEO disputes, and commercial and community entities. He is a current member and past president of the Virginia Mediation Network (VMN), and an Associate Member of the American Bar Association and Dispute Resolution Section. In addition to the Northern Virginia Mediation Service, he is on the rosters of colleagues’ organizations and federal agencies. Mr. Meditz has a Master of Arts in International Relations, Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He is a graduate of the National War College, (National Defense University, Washington, DC) and the Federal Executive Institute (Charlottesville, VA). He received special training in Problem Solving in Organizations, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and EEO matters, family business issues, conflict coaching, and in management and other subjects during his federal career.
Cancellation policy CancellationA fee equal to 30% of the registration cost of the course will apply for any changes to registration (cancellation, re-scheduling) made less than 10 calendar days in advance. This fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be applied to future classes. Northern Virginia Mediation Service is a community dispute resolution center in Fairfax, Virginia affiliated with the School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University and a member of the Virginia Association for Community Conflict Resolution.
