Tuesday, 4 September 2018 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM WET

Listowel Arms Hotel, The Square, Listowel, Co. Kerry, V31 V962, Ireland.

The Marsh Fritillary butterfly is in decline across much of its European range and is listed as an Annex II species under the EU Habitats Directive. To help track changes in this species across the island of Ireland, the Data Centre established the Marsh Fritillary Monitoring Scheme and this workshop is designed to teach the skills needed to effectively monitor this endangered species.

On the day we cover all aspects of the monitoring scheme including the species biology, habitat condition assessment, use of the online data capture system and an afternoon outside putting the monitoring skills into practice. Please bring along clothing appropriate to an Irish autumn and a pair of wellies.

11:00-11:45 – Marsh Fritillary ecology
11:45-12:00 – Tea/coffee (will be provided)
12:00-13:00 – Monitoring methodology
13:00-14:00 – Lunch (bring your own)
14:00-16:00 – Monitoring at a field site
