It is a fact of life that sometimes we need to have conversations we’d rather not. Whether delivering bad news, giving a negative performance evaluation, objecting to additional workload, presenting options during a crisis, or simply letting people know that the direction of a certain project is changing – communicating difficult topics can be an emotionally charged event. Understandably, many people would do anything to avoid the situation. Unfortunately, avoiding these topics does not make them go away. During this hands-on workshop, you will gain the confidence to recognize, plan, and manage these conversations by practicing the techniques discussed.

Nathalie Thompson, MA
Nathalie Thompson is a Virginia Supreme Court certified mentor mediator and professional facilitator specializing in mediation, conflict resolution leadership development, meeting facilitation and coaching. Nathalie is a member of the Restorative Justice (RJ) leadership team for Northern Virginia Mediation Service (NVMS) working to implement RJ in the Fairfax County, VA school and juvenile justice systems. Her expertise includes conflict prevention and resolution, mediation, conflict coaching; restorative justice practices; building and restoring working relationships; building teams and enhancing teamwork; leadership and management development; career coaching.
Izabela Solosi, M.Ed., CPLP
Izabela Solosi is a trainer, facilitator and certified mediator. She works with a roster of over 30 experienced conflict resolution practitioners to provide clients with training and facilitation services. She has presented for a variety of audiences including professionals, adults with disabilities, foreign visitors, and is a recurring speaker at conferences such as the Federal Dispute Resolution (FDR) Conference, the Training Officers Consortium, Virginia Mediation Network (VMN), and the Department of Defense Alternative Dispute Resolution Day. Izabela is a certified Help Increase the Peace Program (HIPP) facilitator, a Total SDI trainer, and a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP). She is a past VMN board member and leader of the Instructional Design Community of Practice, DC Chapter of the Association of Talent Development. Izabela holds a BA in Conflict Analysis and Resolution and an MEd. Curriculum and Instruction, both at George Mason University.
