Direct & Cross Examination of Expert Witnesses

The United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island, in partnership with the Roger Williams University School of Law and the Rhode Island Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, is proud to announce its comprehensive hands-on direct and cross examination of expert witness program.

This program will provide hands-on training in the direct and cross examination of expert witnesses and will take place from October 10-12, 2018. The course will be an intensive three-day program to be held at the Federal Courthouse in Providence, Rhode Island. The faculty teaching the program will include federal and state judges, Roger Williams Law School faculty, and experienced Rhode Island trial lawyers. This program offers 7.5 CLE credits, including 1 ethics credit. Registration will close when the program is full, so interested attorneys should apply as soon as possible.

There is some reading and preparation for this program.  It is strongly suggested that you complete this prior to the start of the program.

The schedule for the program is as follows:

Wednesday, October 10: 3 to 5 p.m. Lectures and Demonstration with a reception to follow.

Thursday, October 11: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lectures and Workshops

Friday, October 12: 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 noon Lecture and Workshop

The cost of the program is $360 (including course materials).  Payment is required upon registration via credit card or PayPal. If you have any questions regarding payment or payment options, please contact Lisa Quartino at lisa_quartino@rid.uscourts.gov.

Partial scholarships are available to lawyers of all backgrounds who require financial assistance.

If you would like to apply for scholarship funding, please first contact the FBA at dwollin@hinckleyallen.com with a brief description of the nature of your law practice and a request to be considered for a scholarship. If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be provided with a special code which should be used when you register for the program.

If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to contact the program chairs, Brooks Magratten (bmagratten@pierceatwood.com; 401-490-3422) or Professor Niki Kuckes (nkuckes@rwu.edu; 401-254-4505.)
