Life Is a Journey, Not a Destination
Putting the Five Touchstones To Work in Our Lives

January 4-5, 2019

In our lives we often awaken to the question, "What does this all mean?" and "Have I really mattered?"  This retreat will look at five words that stand in the place of such a lifelong search: Gather, Connect, Center, Release and Serve. The larger international men's group, Illuman, to which Indiana-Michigan M.A.L.E.s belongs as a chapter, sees these five words as touchstones for authentic male spirituality.  These words express a way of life that can lead to deeper integrity and an expanded appreciation of what life is all about.  In the language of Illuman this is called "The Journey of Illumination." These ideas surface in all major religious traditions one way or another.  They may be dressed with different words, but what the words stand for remains very similar.

This retreat will give us hints as to what this enduring journey might look like through reflection, small- and large-group sharing, ritual, and time together in mutual support.  It may give affirmation to where you are right now and challenge you to move on.  It may call you to more profound ways of seeing life and relationship, and it may challenge male stereotypes that trap us.  It is an opportunity to gather and connect so that we do matter and life is better for our having lived it.

"Neither an immature denial of all authority nor slavish adherence to law and order will work for us anymore.
We must find true authority within and then also without" (Fr. Richard Rohr, Adam's Return).
