The Lean Awareness 101 workshop is designed to help teams understand how to use tools and systems to create a culture of Continuous Improvement and Problem Solving.

In the morning, Presenters Drew Butler and Tom DeForge will instruct on Lean theory and the principles behind Continuous Improvement.

The afternoon features a “hands on” experience, as the presenters will work attendees through real projects that are vital to their sites.

You’ll see the practical application of Lean tools and learn how to become a “Lean Champion” who can help transform your site. Lean Champions are “influencers” who are well respected by their peers and have a passion for Lean/Operational Excellence and want to improve their business as well as make things better for their teams.

 

In this workshop, you’ll learn: 

  • The basic tools of Lean Manufacturing and how to implement them in your organization.

  • How to identify some quick wins in your organization that will show quick payback and improve the working environment of your teams as well as set the stage for future improvement events.

Drew Butler, Shingo Licensed Affiliate & Shingo Certified Facilitator
Drew Butler is a Senior Shingo Examiner, Licensed Affiliate and Certified Facilitator with over 30 years of operations experience in various roles of increasing responsibility in the Aerospace, Industrial, Consumer Products and Mining industries with companies such as Curtiss Wright, SPS Technologies and OC Tanner. During his tenure at Curtiss Wright, Mr. Butler was responsible for leading the development and implementation of the CW Way Lean Operating System throughout the company globally. Mr. Butler has worked with the Shingijutsu Consulting Group for over 15 years as a Senior Lead Examiner with the Shingo Institute in Utah. In this capacity, Drew travels the world evaluating world class facilities in manufacturing, medical devices and consumer products that have applied for the Shingo Prize.

 

Tom Deforge, Lean Sensei
Tom DeForge is a Lean Sensei with over 40 years of manufacturing experience in machining, assembly, testing, quality and engineering with such companies as Pratt & Whitney a United Technologies company where joined the KPO, Kaizen Promotion Office. Mr. DeForge was part of a high-powered team implementing Lean Manufacturing tools, techniques, and methodologies under the tutelage of the Shingijustu senseis. Over the past 30 years, Tom has been featured in several articles and seminars on the subject of Lean Manufacturing implementation. Tom has also studied Lean Principles in the United States and Japan with the originators of the Toyota Production System and has facilitated numerous Improvement workshops in the United States, South America, Europe, Mexico, the Middle East, and Central America.

Drew Butler is a Senior Shingo Examiner, Licensed Affiliate and Certified Facilitator, prior to this Mr. Butler worked at Curtiss Wright as Senior Corporate Director of Operational Excellence. Mr. Butler joined Curtiss Wright in September 2013. With over 30 years of operations experience, Mr. Butler was responsible for the implementation of Lean Operational systems and controls, methods, and strategies in the Oil & Gas Division and in 2014 transitioned into the role of Corporate Director of Operational Excellence for Curtiss Wright. As CW Corporate OPEX Director, Mr. Butler was responsible for leading the development and implementation of the CW Way Lean Operating System throughout Curtiss Wright globally. Before Curtiss Wright, Mr. Butler was the Plant Manager with Boart Longyear Exploratory Mining Company in Salt Lake City, Utah. During his 30-year career, Mr. Butler has served in various roles of increasing responsibility in the Aerospace, Industrial, Consumer Products and Mining industries with companies such as SPS Technologies and OC Tanner. Mr. Butler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Spring Garden College and a MBA from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. He has worked with the Shingijutsu Consulting Group in the past and for over 15 years has been a Senior Lead Examiner with the Shingo Institute in Utah and travels the world evaluating world class facilities in manufacturing, medical devices and consumer products that have applied for the Shingo Prize. In the past, he has served on the Board and as Vice President of Expansion for Guadalupe School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Butler resides in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Butler is also a Muay Thai Blackbelt.
