Tips & Tools to be LEAN (in a Municipal Environment)

Dean Hammond, CPA, CMA, CMMA, Six Sigma Black Belt

What: Most organizations talk about LEAN processes, or how to be LEAN, but are intimidated by the thought of foreign concepts like LEAN, kaizen, continuous improvement, or six sigma.  The reality is that you probably know more about LEAN than you think, most of the tools and tips are very simple, easy to learn, and easy to apply.

How: In this course Dean will teach you simple LEAN tools that you can use and apply in your day-to-day work.  Topics covered will be mistake-proofing, how to remove non-value added activities from your work, the PCAD model (plan, communicate, act, debrief), how to manage change, how to run effective meetings, how to assess risk, five S’s to organize your life, cause & effect, how to collect good data, how to effectively start a project, how to Inform, how to debate, and how to decide.  This course will use real-life municipal scenarios, as well as role playing in order to allow you to practice the tools.

Who: Anyone who works in a municipal environment, from the Shop Foreman, to the Office Clerk, to the CAO, these tools and tips can easily be used by everyone.
