Saturday, September 25: Session Two, 9:30-11:00 a.m.

For Benedictine monks, hospitality means treating each guest as though he or she was Jesus Christ—really, really treating each guest as though they were Christ. When such profound hospitality occurs, it has a transformative effect not only the guest but on the monk as well.  Joan Chittister suggests that true hospitality of the heart could transform our world into "a world of potential friends rather than a world of possible enemies,” as we learn to appreciate the blessings and the mercy that the stranger can bring us.

What does Benedictine hospitality have to teach us as formal and informal leaders in the world of business, not-for-profit, educational and social service organizations?  That is the question that will be examined throughout the week-end at St. Andrew’s Abbey, which has been known for the quality of its hospitality to its guests for over sixty-five years.

Presenters: Michael Carey, Obl.OSB, Ph.D., and Janet Clancy-Feliciano, M.A.
