LEADERSHIP & THE RULE OF BENEDICT: Purity of Heart
Friday, September 25 - Sunday, September 27, 2020
Whether religious or secular, leaders are prey to addictive and neurotic thoughts and psychological projection, and their dysfunctional thinking and acting leads to unhealthy organizational environments.
The concept of purity of heart, developed in the early years of Christian monasticism, has much to offer leaders and scholars of leadership, not only in understanding "the way things really are" in organizations, but in how personal well-being is connected to community well-being, and vice versa.
This workshop/retreat is offered primarily for alumni and friends of Gonzaga University.
Dr. Mike Carey is an oblate of Valyermo. He is an Associate Professor of Organizational Leadership at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. He has taught leadership studies at the graduate level for 33 years at Gonzaga and works to ensure that Gonzaga's graduate leadership programs follow in the tradition of Jesuit education that stretches back to St. Ignatius of Loyola. But his first love is St. Benedict and the community of St. Andrew's Abbey, which he has been connected to since 1971.
