The Lead II ECG Interpretation course reviews basic cardiac anatomy, physiology, and electrophysiology and teaches ECG rhythm, acquisition, and identification. It is required that you prepare for the course in advance by studying the information in the course textbook, reading the recommended chapters, completing the elearning modules, and spending some time practicing ECG rhythm recognition using the textbook. With advance preparation you will be able to complete the course with greater comprehension and retention. Refer to the course syllabus for details on preparing for the course (syllabus included with textbook).

The course content is based on the textbook:
Ellis, K. M. (2011). EKG plain and simple (3rd. ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson Prentice Hall.
The textbook can be purchased from Seasons Gift Shop at TBRHSC; cost $94.00.
Hours of operation: Monday to Friday, 0900 – 1930 hrs. Saturday to Sunday, 1200 – 1600 hrs.
How to prepare:
1. Read assigned chapter and complete practice strips at the end of each chapter (if applicable).
2. Complete corresponding e-learning module.
3. Print Certificate of completion upon finishing each e-learning module. If unable to print certificate, obtain screenshot with electronic device or print screen feature. Bring all certificates of completion to the classroom/exam session.
4. If you do not complete all e-learning modules and present certificates of completion, you will not be permitted to proceed with certification.

Classroom Review and Certification Exam
|
· Instructor review of ECG material.
· Complete proctored closed book certification exam.

Evaluation:
The certification exam is a proctored closed book examination. The exam consists of 20 ECG rhythm strips. For each rhythm strip there will be a total of 5 marks.
In order to be successful, the following criteria should be used:
- Measurement of the PR interval
- Measurement of the QRS interval
- Measurement of the heart rate with ranges and mean
- Regularity of the rhythm
- Proper interpretation of the ECG rhythm and indentification of abnormalities.
To be successful in your Lead II course a mark of 90% or greate must be obtained.
It is essential that you bring your textbook with you to the course. Please plan accordingly and remember to allow time for parking. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact a course instructor.
