About the Event

The Kodály Society of Ireland, in association with DCU School of Arts Education & Movement, invites you to attend its annual international summer course: "Active Music Making". The course aims to give each participant the opportunity to:

  • Develop as a musician and as an educator
  • Learn new teaching tools and strategies 
  • Find new ways to think about music
  • Discover strategies that will facilitate teachers in bringing students to understand music as an artisitic language which will in turn nurture the human spirit

 

Active Music Making

Classes include musicianship (solfège), choral conducting, music teaching methods, choir and chamber music. All levels of musical ability welcome from professional musicians to amateurs and including beginners. Suited to:

  • Early Years teachers
  • Primary teachers (EPV approved)
  • Post-primary music teachers
  • Third-level music lecturers
  • Vocal and instrumental teachers
  • Musicianship teachers in music schools
  • Music students
  • Conductors, singers and performers

Approved by the Department of Education and Skills.
Primary school teachers qualify for Extra Personal Vacation days. 

 

Activities

The KSI summer course is designed to develop all particiants' musicianship skills and to support teaching and learning in all music learning environments (early years, primary, secondary, third level, vocal/instrumental, choral)

Small classes are structured in a way such that participants of any musical level will benefit in an appropriate and encouraging environment.

  • Graded solfège (musicianship) classes
  • Conducting
  • Teaching methods
  • Chamber music
  • Choral singing
  • Related special topics e.g. technology in music education
  • Performances: Lunchtime recitals; Participants' Closing Concert
  • Social events

The Kodály Society of Ireland is an educational support group specialising in professional development for music teachers and musicians. Presented by leading Irish and Hungarian music educators, our training courses provide opportunities for teachers, singers, instrumentalists and conductors to become familiar with the renowned concept of music education formulated by the Hungarian composer and educator Zoltán Kodály, a concept which can be summed up very simply as active, experience learning and musical development through singing.
