This Memorial Day Weekend, Kizomba Tá Doce and GreenThumbz Consulting will host a 22 hour Dance-A-Thon in order to raise awareness of the 22 Veterans that commit suicide every day. As a Veteran of the Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Travis is afflicted with symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Mr. Peters has found dancing to be a great way to combat the effects of this illness. Travis discovered Kizomba during a weekly outdoor gathering of local dancers at Hart Plaza the summer of 2017. Kizomba is a partner dance from Angola that has spread throughout Europe and is now growing in popularity in the United States. Mr. Peters joined in on classes and events in the Detroit area, as he noticed that dancing became a positive activity in his life, aiding him in letting go of stressors and allowing himself to be more involved with others. Kizomba Tá Doce is based in Detroit, MI and was founded in order to provide quality Kizomba instruction and events!
Miss Melissa Dubois Jenkins of Pittsburgh has an extensive background in hip hop, contemporary, ballet, tap, and jazz and is an experienced semi-professional dancer and choreographer known for her positive energy and enthusiasm.
Mike and Melissa started their partnership in 2015 through their common interest in music and African dance. This pair strives to sharpen their skills by continuing their search for knowledge so that they can bring the very best and most authentic dance experience to their students. Melissa’s outgoing personality off-sets Mike’s calm and laid back demeanor and they bring excitement to any dance scene.
Marta is originally from Puerto Rico, but grew up in the states. She began her dance training in Indianapolis, with concentration in ballet, modern and Latin American dances. In 2012, she took an interest in Kizomba and has trained in Mexico, London, Paris and throughout the United States. Over time she fell into teaching and has taught in the Midwest and Puerto Rico. Marta’s passion is giving back, with her most recent project being the rebuilding of her hometown Ceiba after Hurricane Maria.
Shyesha, better known as Shy, has been teaching Zumba since 2014. She is from Jackson, Michigan and recently became interested in Kizomba! Shy has hosted several Kizomba workshops at her home studio and we are excited to have her as part of our Instructor lineup! Her energy will get us going! Her hobbies include traveling, being a vegetarian foodie and giving back to the community through fundraising and fitness!
Mike is known in the dance community for his smooth dance style and love of music. That very love for music has led Mike to become a growing DJ in the community.
Lisa’s goal is to promote an inclusive Kizomba community in the Cincinnati area. Her group, CinciKiz, is very active with great learning and social opportunities. She welcomes everyone to pay a visit to the Queen City.
Jovan aka Dj Casanova is a Boston native who began his career in Kizomba 6 years ago. He is the known DJ for all Kizomba socials in Boston! DJ Casanova has been featured at many festivals in the US and Canada. Jovan has been named the King of LIT because he WILL keep you dancing all night! He is also an amazing dancer, so don't miss out on snagging him for a dance or three!
