Are you between the ages of 8 and 12? Do you love the outdoors? Want to get your hands dirty? Then become a VIC Junior Naturalist! Attend 3 or more of the programs below to earn your certification and participate in a celebration as part of our Kid’s Biofest OR pick and choose from programs that interest you. Registration encouraged to guarantee your spot. Walk-ins welcome. Healthy snack available each day. 

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.  

July 15, Day 1: Observation: Hone your observational skills through a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Participants will practice using their 5 senses to take in the world around them.

July 16, Day 2: Searching for Salamanders: Get ready to get your hands dirty in this hands on program! Participants will learn about proper handling techniques for salamanders and frogs, as well as where to look for them.

July 17, Day 3: Wonderful Wildflowers: Learn about local flowering plants and how important native pollinators are to their success. Participants will enjoy a walk on VIC trails in search of flowers and experience our outdoor native species butterfly house.

July 18, Day 4: Art: Get creative and explore colors, textures, and shapes in nature. Participants will use their observational skills to find materials in nature to use in a piece of artwork, and spend time creating something to take home.

July 19, Day 5: Hiking: This program is designed to teach kids one of the most important Leave No Trace principles: Plan Ahead and Prepare. Participants will learn how to prepare for a day hike and will spend the program hiking on a VIC trail to practice their new skills and enjoy the view.
