Abstract

A principled behavior analyst is someone who “… acts with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice, and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups, and communities. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them; ” in addition, they are well trained in the BACB Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts, and soundly resist any pressure to compromise those values.  In this series of presentations for the Iowa ABA Summer Workshop I will cover topics suggested by IABA members as well as frequent questions submitted to the ABAEthicsHotline.com Those topics include the ethics of using escape extinction, punishment, the treatment of self-injurious behavior and the ethics of supervision. Additional topics include multiple relationships, dealing with school districts as an employee and consultant, billing fraud, the limiting conditions of behavioral treatment, and more. I will also discuss the importance of educating others about our code and the value of pushing back against a system that does not respect our values as behavior analysts.Primary Topics:

CEU Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to discuss the value of function-based methods of dealing with aberrant, self-injurious, and destructive behavior.
