Featured Speakers

PictureMaria Valdovinos is a Professor of Psychology at Drake University.  She received her doctorate in Developmental and Child Psychology from the University of Kansas in 2001.  Afterwards, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt University's Kennedy Center for Research on Human Development.  Dr. Valdovinos is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with over 20 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Currently, she conducts federally-funded research evaluating the effects of psychotropic medication on challenging behaviors in persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Dr. Valdovinos serves on the Board of Directors for the Association for Professional Behavior Analysts and as an Associate Editor for the journal Behavioral Development.


Picture Derek Reed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas where he directs the Applied Behavioral Economics Laboratory. Dr. Reed received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Illinois State University and his Masters and PhD in School Psychology from Syracuse University. He has served as Associate Editor for Behavior Analysis in Practice and The Psychological Record, and guest Associate Editor for The Behavior Analyst, Journal of Behavioral Education, and Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. He serves as a reviewer on the editorial boards of The Behavior Analyst, Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, and Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior.  Dr. Reed has published over 100 peer reviewed papers and book chapters, coauthored three edited books, and was the 2016 recipient of the American Psychological Association Division 25 B. F. Skinner Foundation New Applied Researcher Award. He is presently working on a new textbook titled “Introduction to Behavior Analysis” with his coauthors Greg Madden and Mark Reilly. Recently, Dr. Reed served on the ABAI Science Board and as the Executive Director of the Society for the Quantitative Analyses of Behavior. His research addresses issues of societal concern through behavioral science and economic theory. 


PictureSean Casey has worked in the area of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) since 1991 and has specifically focused in assessment and treatment of challenging behavior and feeding concerns. He has worked with children in families in a variety of settings including: hospitals, outpatient clinics, home settings, schools, early intervention centers, and residential programs and school settings.  Dr. Casey received his original training in ABA at Children’s Seashore House (Philadelphia, PA) from 1991-1995. As a graduate student he trained at the University of Iowa from 1995-2000 under David Wacker and he received his initial training in feeding disorders from 1997-1999 under Linda Cooper-Brown. Since then, Dr. Casey has worked several residential programs which focused on ABA approaches to educate and treat children who display a variety of intensive behavior problems. Dr. Casey has also held faculty positions at universities in Pennsylvania (Penn State, Temple, Arcadia and Holy Family), New Jersey (Rowan) and Iowa (Iowa and Drake).  Over the course of his career, Dr. Casey has over made 70 presentations at major conferences nationally and internationally, including more than ten invited presentations. He has over a dozen peer-reviewed publications, 2 book chapters and has received two grants specifically in the area of feeding disorders. He has served as a Guest Editor for several leading peer-reviewed journals. His is also a recipient of the Association for Behavior Analysis Student Committee Outstanding Mentor of the Year Award in 2006 (an honor he holds dear because of the mentoring he also has received over the years).


PictureHeather M. McGee is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Co-Chair of the Industrial/Organizational Behavior Management graduate programs at Western Michigan University (WMU). She received her B.S. (1998), M.A. (2003), and Ph.D. (2004) from WMU. Dr. McGee is also co-founder of Performance Blueprints, a performance improvement consulting firm specializing in helping small businesses, non-profits & human service settings by providing a variety of consulting and training services. Dr. McGee has designed, developed and implemented organizational performance solutions in a variety of industries and settings, including autism service providers, the pharmaceutical industry, education, and health and human services. These solutions have included performance-based instruction, performance management, behavioral systems changes, and lean sigma initiatives. Additionally, Dr. McGee is the former Executive Director of the Organizational Behavior Management (OBM) Network and serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management (JOBM) and on the editorial board for Behavior Analysis: Research and Practice.


PictureKeith D Allen is Director and Professor of Psychology at the Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation and at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He received his master in applied behavior analysis from Western Michigan University, completed his PhD in child clinical psychology from West Virginia University and did his residency at University of Mississippi Medical Center. His research and clinical interests include behavioral parent training, pain and stress-related disorders in children, autism spectrum disorders, and management of every day common childhood behavioral issues in school, home and primary care settings. He is currently Co-Director of the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology, one of the largest internship consortiums in the country. He has published over 100 scientific papers and chapters on interventions with children with behavioral health concerns and he has published a book on the science and practice of parent training, published by APA. He has been awarded grants from the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Education and has been recognized as both a Distinguished Researcher and as an Outstanding Teacher of the Year at UNMC.
