Coastal Homeschool Enrichment Academy will be hosting its 1st Annual Invention Convention on Friday, March 16, 2018! Put your thinking caps on and start working on your amazing inventions!

 

INVENTION CONVENTION Participation Guidelines: 
Students should declare their intent to participate no later than Friday, February 2, 2018. Participants are required to complete an Inventor Journal and create a prototype of their invention. (Team entries need complete only one Journal and one prototype). The Journal should document each participant’s creative process and should include the following: a) a description of the problem addressed by the invention; b) a description of solution ideas; c) a description of the invention; and d) a description of how the invention solves the problem. Participants must also build a prototype of their invention to display at the Invention Convention. The prototype does not need to be full scale and it is recommended that it fits on a table top (2 feet by 3 feet). Backboards or other presentation materials are not required, but are suggested. The participant's Inventor Journal and prototype will be submitted for the judges' review at the Invention Convention on March 16, 2018.

5. 10 and under: The invention journal documents the invention presented with the name of the invention, drawing or diagram, and use of the invention.

11+: The invention journal names the invention presented, has drawings and diagrams illustrating the functioning of the invention, explains the need or usefulness of the invention, and includes a research section (described and evaluated further below). The journal also shows evidence of inventing progress, including examples of problem solving and trial and error methods.

6. 11+ ONLY: There is thorough research proving the invention is a new unique idea, indicating a need for the invention, and analyzing market competition.
