Saturday, 28 July 2018 9:30 AM - Sunday, 29 July 2018 4:30 PM GST

Holme Pierrepont White Water Course, Adbolton Lane, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG12 2LU, United Kingdom.

INTENSIVE 2 STAR PADDLESPORTS TRAINING COURSE.

The course will run over the weekend of July 28th - 29th, between 9.30 - 4.30 each day.

12 placves available, £30 each.

Students will then be given the option of booking an assessment with a view to gaining the British Canoeing 2-star award.

The club can provide appropriate boats, paddles, buoyancy aids and safety equipment.  Students must provide their own appropriate paddle clothing, footwear and any refreshments required.

Part of the syllabus includes self-rescuing after a capsize and rescuing a capsized paddler (in different types of boats). This will be covered fully on the course on an appropriately warm evening.

Prerequisites:

Candidates should be the following:

·       At one star, or paddle power passport level (not a requirement to have achieved the award).

·       Willing to capsize and do rescue skills (whilst smiling).

·      Willing to paddle both Canoe and Kayak (both with equal enthusiasm).

Just attending on a Thursday night will probably not result in candidates being capable of passing an assessment, if you want to pass an assessment you will also have to:

  • Have paddled in two different locations (any 2 of the following) – canal, river, loch/lake, or sea. Different parts of large bodies of water can be counted as two different locations such as the Whinfield pool at HPP and the River Trent.  These trips can be during the Saturday morning sessions up the River Trent or on any of the club organised trips during the summer. Prior experience can also be taken into account.

If anyone feels they are uncertain if they can do this but want to progress, come and have a chat with Tom, Tracy or Caroline at one of the club sessions and we’ll help you make decision.  Just because you may not feel you will be capable of passing an assessment this does not necessarily mean they will not be allowed to join in with the training and improve their skills and experience and have a great time.
