Improvisation is the art of the unexpected! It teaches us how to take risks and to respond confidently in the moment to whatever happens. The improviser develops a mindset that includes curiosity, high stakes listening, flexibility, and the desire to build strong relationships.

 

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

1. Say they did improv!

2. Understand the differences between improv and comedy, and describe three fundamental rules of improv

3. Reflect on opportunities to use improv to facilitate workplace learning

Jeremy Rezmovitz, Family Physician at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is the lead for Education and Innovation in the Quality and Innovation program in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Toronto (U of T).

Hartley Jafine, faculty member in the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) program, Arts & Science program, and Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University, where he facilitates theatre and arts based courses.

 

Judith Peranson, Family Physician at St. Michael's Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, U of T. Her education background and interests include interprofessional education and faculty development for clinician teachers and health care teams.
