The North Bull Island is not only extreme for its origins and its plant diversity but also for its proximity to a European city centre. For plant enthusiasts, it is often the orchid flora that draws visitors to the North Bull. The workshop will begin with some indoor work, firstly exploring the orchid family, then the 30 species of orchid that are found in Ireland followed by an insight as to what one might expect to find on North Bull Island. Afterwards some hours will be spent walking and talking, identifying orchid species, their hybrids and the other dune plants with which they grow.
