Matrah Infrastructure Integration and Redevelopment (MIIR) Project – The Challenges of an Integrated Urban Plan

Overview

The communication will present the integrated plan cutting through all the aspects.

The urban part will be done quickly, then the utility networks will be illustrated showing the integrated approach.

The flood protection and the storm water drainage systems will be explained with more detail.

About the Speaker:

Francesca Arici is an architect (Professional Degree, IUAV Venice, 1999), urban designer (MAUD, Harvard GSD, 2005) and urban planner (PhD, University of Palermo, 2010).  Her interests focus on urban sustainability and on the understanding of the role of infrastructures and landscape in the contemporary urban environment.

She has more than 16 years professional experience in Urban Planning and Design, Architecture, Landscape and Engineering working environments, with coordination roles. After graduation she worked as an architect in different European offices. Over the past years she has obtained prizes and mentions in different international competitions.

Since February 2013 she has been the Head of Sering’s Urban Planning and Design Division. During 2015 she was the Deputy Project Manager and Urban Development coordinator for the Concept Planning and Design Stage of the Matrah Infrastructure Integration and Redevelopment (MIIR) project, becoming the Team Leader starting from March 2016 (Preliminary Planning and Design and following stages).

In her professional life she has regularly lectured at university level both in Italy and abroad and from September 2010 she is Adjunct Professor of Urban Culture at IE University (Spain).

Daniele Arnò is a civil engineer whose expertise focuses on the hydrology and hydraulics fields. Graduated in 1996 at the University of Palermo (Italy), he holds a Master of Science in Environmental Management (Sant’Anna University, Pisa, Italy 2000).

His 20-year work experience on the water resource field, in planning and design of civil infrastructures, encompasses closed water cycle systems (reservoirs, water supply networks, sewerages, wastewater treatment plants and reuse) and rivers management (flood detention dams, storm-water drainage systems).

Along with his infrastructures design activities, he also collaborated at the development of Flood Risk Management Plans (Mediterranean area) and the Optimal Water Resources Allocation by means of Cost-Benefit Analysis.

He is currently working at Sering International LLC in a number of large scale road drainage projects in Oman. Starting from March 2016 he has been appointed deputy Team Leader of the “Matrah Infrastructure Integration and Redevelopment” (MIIR) project.

The lecture will start promptly at 6.30pm.
