This presentation focuses on the importance of both pre-briefing and debriefing students in simulation. It begins with defining the terms, followed by details of how to utilize them. The presentation talks about the need for simulation centers to develop policies and procedures in order to ensure standardization and faculty support. There are also a couple of videos demonstrating the implementation process, followed by a discussion around best practices.

Simulation--it's awesome, right? If designed and delivered well, absolutely. And participants can learn a lot from participating in simulation activities. However, that learning is not limited to only the good stuff. "Bad" simulation can create training scars--learned behaviors that repeat poor or even dangerous patient care practices that can have devastating impacts to both patients and providers. This session will explore the ways in which training scars occur and provide concepts and methods to avoid letting those training scars from becoming a part of your simulation activities. Battle the dark side and improve your skills as a healthcare simulationist by learning to identify and eliminate training scars--those we can see, and those we can't.
