We as structural engineers, are usually concerned with creating new buildings and bringing them into existence but, what happens when those are no longer required, and it is necessary to have them removed? This exciting new topic for our recurrent CPD talk will shed light on Highrise building demolitions.
Highrise building demolition has advanced structural engineering design to be done to make sure that the building demolition is safe, not affecting stakeholders and the environment.
This presentation is based on the Guinness World Records recognized demolition done in Abu Dhabi, capital of UAE in November 2020. Like any other project, the demolition project also had many challenges and different aspects of engineering were to be considered. This presentation will focus on the structural engineering side of the demolition, where a structural design engineer can relate to the demolition design, Highrise building design and associated challenges.
