Workshop Objectives:Review and discuss Intimate Relationship Theories. Examine research findings that determine what factors lead to relationship satisfaction. Explore how this research relates to communication. Define and discuss the human communication process. Identify how educating clients about the human communication process can improve communication skills and relationship satisfaction. With divorce rates continually hovering at about 50% it is important for therapist to identify strategies that promote healthy relationships. Research suggests that the quality of a couple's communication is associated with marital outcomes overtime. Helping clients to understand the process of human communication, especially intrapersonal and interpersonal communication, can improve the quality of communication and thus improve relationship satisfaction.
