Great Sandy Straits Experience 2016

The annual R Marine Jones Great Sandy Straits Trip will be held from Thursday the 22nd September to Thursday the 29th September 2016.

Taking in the Wide Bay Bar, the Great Sandy Straits, Bundaberg and Lady Musgrave Island on the Great Barrier Reef.

For Gold Coast based attendees, we will depart the Gold Coast Broadwater the afternoon before (21st) and head north to a suitable anchorage in Moreton Bay where we will start the event from at 6:00am on the 22nd.

The Anchorage and start point will allow the Gold Coast and Brisbane people to join us at their leisure some time before dark. Thursday morning will be an early start so we can travel non-stop as a group  to Fraser Island.

Our goal is to spend at least 2 days at Lady Musgrave Island which will mean an overnight stop in Bundaberg for fuel. If the weather is not suitable to head offshore then we will spend our time away in the protected areas along the inside of Fraser Island.

The trip is suitable for diesel powered vessels with Shaft and POD drives (not suitable for stern drive) with a range of over 300nm in ocean running conditions at an average cruise speed of 20 knots.
