Since 2000, Victory Enthusiasts have met at the Great Lakes Regional Meet (GLRM) to exchange stories and share their passion for Victory motorcycles. What started as a small group is now a major meet and greet event attracting VMC folks from across the country. With this year signifying the 20th anniversary of the VMC, this event is especially important. Keeping in mind the traditions already laid upon us, this year's rally will move to the west shore of Michigan and pave the way for new traditions. The rally will focus on renewed interest in the VMC by focusing on the Victory brand and what it stands for. There will be guided rides on both Friday and Saturday that highlight the beauty of the Lake Michigan shoreline. There will also be offerings of “self-guided” rides for individuals to partake in. An ice-cream social on Friday will kick start the event followed by a pig roast on Saturday to round out the event. There will be plenty of time to socialize and enjoy all of what the VMC and the west shore have to offer. Folks will also be encouraged to explore the historic Victorian City of Manistee as well.

Manistee area also has a multitude of offerings including the historical downtown region, shopping, sandy beaches, light house, casino, breweries, restaurants, diners, and easy access to M-22; one of Michigan’s most beautiful motorcycle routes.

The name "Manistee" is from an Ojibwa word first applied to the principal river of the county. The derivation is not certain, but it may be from Ministigweyaa, "river with islands at its mouth." Other sources claim that it was an Ojibwe term meaning "spirit of the woods." Regardless of its exact meaning, the rally shall be named “Winding River Rally” to pay homage to the history of the region.

This year we chose to support a local organization dedicated to “providing education and limited financial assistance” to cancer patients in the five-county area: Benzie, Lake, Manistee, Mason and Oceana counties. We plan to donate proceeds collected from the event to the Lakeshore Community Cancer Foundation which was named for the late Sally K. Johnson, former director of nursing at both West Shore Community College and Ferris State University. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, then treated; diagnosed with lung cancer, then treated; and eventually died of metastatic cancer. While undergoing treatment, she put the fund into motion. The foundation is recognized as a 501C-3 not-for-profit agency, and any donations made are tax-deductible. For more information about the fund or to apply (any adult diagnosed with cancer is eligible), call 239-4017 or email lakeshorecommunitycancerfund@gmail.com.

West Michigan Victory Riders

The West Michigan Victory Riders Chapter #201 in collaboration with the GLR chapters and the Victory Motorcycle Club are hosting the GLR meet. The Victory Motorcycle Club is an independent, not for profit group of Victory motorcycle owners and enthusiasts that began in 1998 as a Yahoo online chat site by several of the new owners of Victory Motorcycles. The Victory Motorcycle club (www.thevmc.com) has grown from a small group of enthusiasts to an international club with members and guests in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Europe, and Asia.
