Getting started with Goat Milking

In the class we will cover:

1)      How to choose a dairy goat

2)      How often to milk

3)      Equipment you’ll need

4)      Training a goat to milk

5)      Milking routine

6)      Milk handling

7)      Care & feeding of dairy goats

This class is intended as a primer to owning and keeping your own dairy goat. Everyone in the class will have an opportunity to hand milk one of our dairy does. In addition we will demonstrate hoof trimming, giving an injection, and administering a bolus, plus a tour of Grade A Milking Parlor.

You will leave with all the tools and information you need to manage your own backyard dairy goats and a few recipes straight from our books.

Lost Peacock Creamery is a Grade A Goat Dairy in Olympia, Washington. We make ridiculously fabulous cheese and yogurt from the milk of our own goats. Lost Peacock Creamery is a magical place where the pigs have polka dots, the goats have wings, and the trees hug us back-everyone has a place at our table.
