The Code to Success in Mathematics
What do Alan Turing, Ralph Merkle and Ron Rivest have in common? Here’s a cryptic clue: OPCV OTKX APTS NXSZ DIDI GUZP FGBP HNKO LTLL HZNL G. Would you like to know the answer? Come along and experience The Code to Success in Mathematics professional development event. Leave your textbooks on your desk as we conduct practical activities, explore problems and experiment with a little programming
All sessions are FREE, attend all day or part of the day, the choice is yours!

Plenary Session
Can you keep a secret? We’ll start by cracking a few codes and see why prime numbers are so important to modern day life, lots of opportunities to engage students. Participants will also see how easy it is to introduce some basic programming that will help students develop logical reasoning and cultivate important neurological processes. Finally we will see how practical activities build understanding between topics and concepts and show case the relevance of mathematics to the world around us.
Workshop A: Exploring Data with TI-NspireTM
Did you know that you can use Google to show that students probably don’t do homework over the school holidays? We can collect data from so many sources, its accessibility and relevance has increased enormously over the past decade, so too the career opportunities. Careers include web analytics for those interested in technology, stock and property markets for finance and data capturing for those interested in sport. This session will explore a selection of activities relevant to each of these areas.
Workshop B: Exploring Data with TI-84 Plus

Workshop C: Using TI-NspireTM Technology In Maths B
Real life optimisation problems are easy to generate with the assistance of technology. Teachers and textbooks show pictures of containers being filled with a liquid, posing the question “How fast is the height of a liquid changing if the volume is changing at a constant rate…? Students remember this and other activities much more when they are involved in the construction of the activity. This and other examples will be included in this workshop.
