This festival features 2 nights of dancing and 2 days of education-focused dance training in bachata as it is danced in the Dominican Republic.

WORKSHOPS

 

SATURDAY:

11AM-12PM – MOVE LIKE A DOMINICAN: BASIC STRUCTURES & BODY MOVEMENT
Learn a variety of basic steps and shapes of North and South coasts of DR, as well as how to move your body like Dominican.

12:15-1:15PM – PERFECT YOUR LEADING & FOLLOWING
Dancing is nothing without proper leading and following. In this workshop we will focus on developing a connection with your partner, utilizing a Dominican frame and adding swings to your dancing.

LUNCH: 1:15-1:45PM

1:45-2:45PM – SHAPES & ROTATIONS IN PARTNERWORK + FOOTWORK
Sequence in a couple – combination of shapes, rotations, and footwork.

3:00-4:00PM – HISTORY OF BACHATA & ITS STYLES
Learn about the history of bachata starting at the roots to current day bachata with music and dance styles. We will also discuss how different bachata styles appeared.

SUNDAY:

11AM-12PM – MUSICAL STRUCTURE OF BACHATA FOR DANCERS
In this workshop, you will learn about the instruments and rhythms in bachata, as well as how to hear and understand the music and how dancers can use it.

12:15-1:15PM – BACHATA BONAO & BATEY STYLES
Bachata is different all over the island. In this workshop, we will learn about the Bachata styles of agricultural regions of the Dominican Republic such as Bonao, Santiago etc.. This will add another dynamic and flow to your dancing.

LUNCH: 1:15-1:45PM

1:45-2:45PM – MUSICALITY IN  BACHATA
This workshop focuses on playing with music accents – pauses, instrumental solos, melody, and breaks.

3:00-4:00PM – ADVANCED PARTNERWORK
Continue your progress in making your dancing more unique and interesting. This will be a sequence in a couple including a combination of shapes, rotations and footwork.

Description: In this workshop, you will learn Classic Bachata footwork and partnerwork. We will focus on how to connect with your partner on the dance floor. You will also learn about body expressions/gestures of the Dance of the Island. Level: Intermediate

ABOUT BAILAMAR:

 
Maria & Alexander - BailaMar (Russia)
Since 2012 Maria and Alex spent totally almost 3 years living in the Dominican Republic, exploring its culture and dance. They are the organizers of regular bachata camps BailaMar in Dominican Republic and are dance instructors in ArmenyCasa - one of the biggest Latin dance school in Russia.
 
Maria and Alexander have been instructors and performers at bachata weekends in Moscow, Kaliningrad, Arkhangelsk, Samara, Vladimir, Bryansk etc and instructors of professional courses for bachata instructors in Moscow. They have also been instructors, performers and judges at various Dance Festivals in Russia, the biggest of them are Hot Winter in Siberia 2016 and Timbafest 2016 as well as instructors at DR8 authentic bachata festival (Dominican Republic), Bachata Lovers Dominican edition (Poland). They are also the organizers of Dominican Flow Bachata Festival.
 
Maria has more than 20 years of dance experience and over 10 years of dance teaching. She has been working in various dance styles from classical dance to urban club dancing. In 2008 together with Alexander she was involved into Latin American dances, such as salsa, bachata and merengue. This passion brought them to the Dominican Republic in 2012. They fell in love with this country and stayed there for a long time to explore bachata. Later on they formed their own vision of teaching bachata and started to organize regular BailaMar Bachata Camps in Dominican Republic in cooperation with Dominican dance instructors. In 2014 they came back to Russia and started to spread traditional bachata there giving regular and intensive courses.
