On Wednesday, August 16th, 2017, Flagstaff Police Department Bomb Squad and Federal Bureau of Investigation will present a Chemical Industry Outreach Workshop (CIOW) for the regions first responders, law enforcement, chemical industry and academia personnel. The CIOW is designed to raise the awareness of the use of common chemicals to produce improvised explosives.
The classroom portion of this training will be held at the United States Forest Service, 1824 South Thompson Street, Flagstaff, Arizona 86001,and will include lectures in the morning focused on FBI initiatives, capabilities and the chemical threat, followed by a lecture from Bomb Technicians on Improvised Explosive Devices (IED’s).
The afternoon session will consist of a field trip to an explosives range for a live demonstration of various IED’s, most of which can be mixed using common household chemicals. This demonstration is designed to underscore the potential danger of these chemicals, both in the hands of terrorists as well as juvenile experimenters.

Who Should Attend: Law enforcement, first responders, and managerial and executive representatives from the chemical industry and academia.
Demo Description: Attendees will need to wear appropriate outdoor attire and be prepared for inclement weather. Please bring sunscreen and hats if desired. Ear plugs will be provided. Cameras and video equipment will be permitted during the demonstration, but are limited to private use only. Unfortunately, food and beverages will not be provided. Please bring water and/or snacks as desired.
