PROGRAMS:

Savannah by the Numbers (K – 8th

Walking Program, Walk Time Based on Group Age

This interdisciplinary program combines social studies with mathematics at all ages. Participants engage in problem-solving to discover Savannah’s unique city plan, the city’s rich history, and its beautiful architecture.  The length of the program is dependent on participants’ ages.

History is Monumental (8th-12th)

Walking Program, 2 Hours

This program begins at Massie where participants view the only three-dimensional model of the historic district. Through the unique laser show, participants gain an overview of the people and monuments they will see along Savannah’s Monument Row. This program utilizes Savannah’s monuments as focal points for local, state, national, and world history.  At each stop, participants will discuss the importance of the historical figure memorialized, their life, and their contributions.

COST AND REGISTRATION
$6 per participant age 5+ (Parents will also pay the $6 group rate to participate)
Payment is upon arrival, but please register and then arrive on time to submit it. This will help our group begin on time and be courteous to our instructors and venue.

LOCATION
Class tour begins at The Massie Heritage Center located at 207 E Gordon St, Savannah on the corner of Abercorn and East Gordon Street. Please arrive early in order to locate parking.

TAG-ALONGS
While we hope that you have a fun and memorable field trip to Massie, please remember that our school group programs are an extension of the classroom.  We ask that parents do not bring students’ siblings with them, so that we can focus on the registered students.

WALKING ETIQUETTE
When students are walking in downtown Savannah, please prepare them to be mindful when crossing streets and to walk to the right, two by two.  We discourage the use of strollers on our tours.  Also, please remind your students to respect Savannah’s Historic District, its residents, and their property.  The city should be left better than they found it.  Remember, sidewalks can be uneven, so please don’t forget your field trip first aid kit and proper walking shoes.

LUNCH
If you are planning lunch after your visit to Massie, we recommend utilizing Forsyth Park. Only two blocks from Massie, the park has benches, a playground, and restrooms.  Plan to bring extra trash bags and blankets. Due to limited space, we will not be able to store lunches inside Massie.

GIFT SHOP
Massie has a small gift shop and restrooms on site.  Please plan your itinerary so that your students will have time to browse the gift shop and use the restrooms.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation fees apply ($3) to this event. Please be mindful of your calendar availability. Thank you.
