ABOUT
Way back in the late 1990s, a group of Wellington’s hospitality elite wanted to celebrate all that was good about our industry, and recognise excellence among their hard-working peers. They decided to hold an outstanding awards ceremony and a spectacularly great party.
They named them the Felix Awards in honour of Dean Felix Dunlop, a pioneer of pizza, white tablecloths and brunch, and one of the visionaries behind the wonderful Brasserie Flipp.
The Felix Awards, the first of New Zealand’s peer-voted hospitality awards, ran for a number of years and is the benchmark for the industry. After a brief hiatus, and under a new committee, the Felix Awards morphed into the Capital Awards, once again paying homage to all that was excellent in Wellington’s hospitality scene.
In 2016, after a couple of years of abeyance, we are rekindling this celebration of the capital’s culinary prowess and greater Wellington’s great venues and people. We’re also bringing back the Felix name.
While some of you may be too young to remember the Felix Awards of old, we think it’s fitting to have a link with the past while we look to the future, and celebrate the present.
