ESL Mini Course
Course Description:
In 2012, Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education adopted new regulations and launched an initiative to improve the academic achievement of ELLs and close the proficiency gaps between ELLs and their English proficient peers. The Rethinking Equity and Teaching for English Language Learners (RETELL) initiative is designed, in tandem, to strengthen teaching and learning for ELLs:
? SEI Endorsement and related courses for teachers and administrators
? WIDA ELD standards
? ACCESS for ELLs
This one day ESL mini course will provide ESL educators information about the current state guidelines and initiatives, definition and status of English Language Learners, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the context of where we are now and what our current reality is, and how we are servicing students in Lowell.
- Identify what instructional services/programs (research-based) that are best for ELLs.
- Apply RETELL ESL instructional strategies in an ESL or SEI classroom.
