As part of the July AMS MacGroups, we are hosting a 2-day study tour of the Bundaberg macadamia industry for North Queensland growers.

This tour will give growers unprecedented access to a range of high performing growers and industry experts around the Bundaberg region.

So we can guage interest from our North QLD growers and continue our planning, we are accepting EOIs for the tour until Wednesday 22 June.

TOUR DETAILS

Participating North QLD growers will attend the following:

Thursday 14 July - Bundaberg MacGroup meeting

This will give you the chance to network with fellow growers, meet key industry stakeholders and see presentations from industry experts about the intricacies of macadamia flowering and factors contributing to nut set and yield, global marketing insights and the impending changes in the macadamia industry. There will also be an afternoon activity planned for the tour group.

Friday 15 July - Farm tour

The group will visit farms in the region to explore all aspects of orchard management. From orchard establishment, young tree development to mature orchard, you will learn from growers and industry stakeholders who are outperforming industry average yields, implementing sustainable systems and on the cutting edge of technology integration. Some specific topics as part of the tour will be:

  • Canopy management, pruning young and mature trees and cultivar considerations
  • Water management, irrigation scheduling and drainage
  • Harvest/post-harvest management
  • Orchard monitoring and pest/disease scouting
  • Rootstock and scion interactions
  • Nutrition considerations for macadamia
