In a special speaker event, IPEd Patron and renowned language expert Professor Roly Sussex will be giving a talk to Society of Editors (SA) members on Saturday 30 April. We’re delighted to invite you to this one-off expert speaker event, where we’ll be learning about language, discrimination and gender from one of Australia’s leading experts.
You are also warmly welcome to stay after Roly’s talk to enjoy afternoon tea with Roly, fellow SocEds (SA) members and your committee.
During his visit to SocEds (SA), Roly will tell us why gender in language is far more than a matter of how to use pronouns. He will touch on race, colour, creed, ethnicity, and abledness – key issues for any editor aiming to help authors craft sensitive and appropriate writing.
We’ll hear about some of the fascinating issues that arise when language comes under social pressures, learn about how language can be engineered, and explore how editors are caught in the middle of the changes that are taking place in the language.
