9:00am-12:00pm   Professional Development Session (2-Part Session)

  • Session 1: Staff Development and Relations (9am-10:30am). Session Description: TRIO fortunately has professional development embedded in its structure; however, it is often relegated to the “back burner.”  This session explores why and how enriching professional development opportunities and intentionally improving staff relations is crucial to building a model program.  We will discuss ten principles of a vibrant staff development component.  Each person will work on a plan to implement one or more staff development opportunities or activities to improve staff relations. 

  • Session 2: Improving Institution and Community Relations (10:45am-12:00pm). Session Description: Affecting campus climate is a regulatory responsibility of SSS and, perhaps should be something all TRIO professionals should strive to achieve.  In return, TRIO needs higher respect and understanding. This session looks at methods for enriching how we work with institutional and community agency colleagues.

9:00am-1:00pm      ECMC Interactive Training: Realizing the College Dream

  • Session Description: Realizing the College Dream helps educators increase college attendance among low-income, first-generation students with: Hands-on activities and interactive workshops about planning and paying for college; experiences that challenge students to see themselves in college and ye-opening information about the economic value of college.

The Oregon TRIO Association is a 501(c)3 organization that advocates on behalf of low income and first generation college students in the state of Oregon. Our mission is to increase the number of low income and underrepresented students in higher education. The Oregon TRIO Association is a member of the Northwest Association of Educational Opportunity Programs (NAEOP), which represents Region X TRIO programs in Alaska, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. TRIO programs emerged from the Civil Rights Voting Act of 1964, and have since been established by the continual reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, first enacted into law in 1967. TRIO programs include Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math-Science, Veteran's Upward Bound, Educational Opportunity Centers, Student Support Services, the Ronald McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, and TRIO Training Grants. TRIO programs assist students with career exploration, college admissions, college preparation, financial aid, scholarships, and college retention and graduation.
