Energy codes have begun to reach beyond basic energy performance and surpass traditional levels of high performance programs.  Although many of these programs have increased their stringency, the Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State acts as a good stepping stone towards better performing homes. It makes these programs much more attractive for builders wishing to differentiate their product beyond efficient, but still code minimum, products.  In addition, the energy code introduces many new challenges and considerations including additional moisture control, indoor air quality, and comfort issues.  Existing high performance programs can lead builders to better strategies for both meeting code and producing products that perform better than their competition.  These programs can also help recognize changes in the systems of a building as structures become more air-tight and energy efficient.

Newport Ventures on behalf of the NYSERDA offers training, education, and support services to help New York Energy Code stakeholders understand and comply with the 2015 IECC. Visit our website at http://newportventures.net/projects/nyserda/energycodetraining.html to learn more.
