Friday, 10 March 2017 2:00 PM - Saturday, 11 March 2017 3:00 PM MST

Steve Porter Home Studio, 3917 E Des Moines Street, Mesa, AZ, 85205, United States.

Steve Porter’s - Desert Landscape Photography Workshop

You will be joining Steve Porter to photograph the dramatic landscapes of the Superstition Mountains and the desert southwest at two locations. At each shoot, Steve will discuss image composition, camera settings, depth of field, and lighting considerations with one on one guidance to help you find that amazing shot you are looking for. Field shoots are scheduled for Friday late afternoon and evening in addition to Saturday morning. Both locations will involve off-trail desert hiking, so please bring the appropriate shoes and attire.

Our group will meet at 2:00 PM Friday afternoon - then again after the Saturday morning shoot at Steve's Mesa home studio for classroom instruction and discussion on camera/lens considerations, understanding digital imagery, image management and organization in addition to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop processing techniques utilized by Steve in creating his fine art landscape images. In-class instruction will include time to work on your own images with guidance from Steve using Lightroom CC 2015.8 and Photoshop CC 2017 - so for best results, bring a laptop loaded with current software versions.

The workshop will continue through the lunch time frame on Saturday until 3:00 PM with a simple lunch provided as our photography discussions and photo editing demonstrations continue.

As a licensed commercial pilot, I have been flying Cessnas and taking aerial photos around the southwest for nearly 30 years, and in the process have shot a lot of very cool places from the air and on the ground. As a photography professional, I have traveled the world on a number of international projects including two BYUTV documentary films, a variety of fine art photography publications and an extensive series of children’s educational apps and printed books. I have also produced a number of video productions including music videos, business promotions, inspirational videos and life history films as well as some behind the scenes video work on documentary films. I guess I can say that I have become a digital imagery expert and love to find new ways to maximize my creative potential with this amazing technology. My areas of expertise include night sky photography, light painting, high dynamic range (HDR), landscape, street and editorial photography, drone based still photography & video, Aerial (fixed wing aircraft) photography, motion controlled time lapse work, post processing in Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and a wide variety of other applications.
