For the fourth straight year, Carlie C's IGA in Laurinburg is offering up valuable floor space in its grocery store for the Tree of Remembrance, a fundraiser which aids in financially supporting the services provided by Scotland Regional Hospice. The beautiful, live 12-foot Christmas tree will stand in the store for 18 days providing visitors with the opportunity to place an angel ornament on its evergreen branches in honor or memory of someone special. Carlie C's is the fourth Scotland County business to host the Tree of Remembrance since its inauguration 1987. For the entire 33-year existence of the annual fundraiser, bro love hospice supporters Beacham and Lynn McDougald have purchased and delivered the actual tree used for the event. Dozens of hospice volunteers have already signed up for 2-hour shifts throughout the month of December to sit at the tree and sell the $5 ornaments to shoppers. A very special thank you goes to hospice volunteer Catherine McLaurin who has worked tirelessly to make sure that each shift has been filled. Scotland Regional Hospice volunteer coordinator Bunny Hasty makes sure that each of the volunteers have everything they need and will provide regular tree maintenance (ie. watering, sweeping up needles).
The staff at Scotland Regional Hospice would like to thank our volunteers cum, Carlie C's, Catherine McLaurin, Beacham and Lynn McDougald, and the SMH engineering staff who makes this fundraiser possible each and every year.
