This 6 CEU Decision Airway Course is designed for all levels of healthcare providers, from EMT-B to RN to MD, who are responsible for emergency and non-emergency airway management of the patients they care for.
The class is taught by Flight For Life staff and a panel of airway experts, who focus on airway management across all age groups and the airway challenges posed by the critically ill or injured patient. The course emphasizes the importance of proper airway assessment and decision-making skills to provide participants the confidence and capacity to manage any airway situation they encounter.
Participants practice basic and advanced airway skills in multiple realistic hands-on scenario simulations with a faculty of airway experts. Course participants will develop rapid and systematic approaches for the management of the normal, difficult and failed airway.
Full day of education and hands-on skills stations
Breakfast and Lunch are provided.
Participants who complete this course will earn 6 CEUs

SPEAKER BIOS
Dr. James C. DuCanto is a United States-trained anesthesiologist with 21 years of experience in private practice at Quaternary-Care referral center for Aurora Healthcare. Dr. DuCanto served as medical education coordinator and instructor to medical students and resident physicians mentoring anesthesiologists and critical care physicians in the development of their advanced airway skills. Additionally, Dr. DuCanto created a commercially available airway management simulation system (the Lifeform/Nasco SALAD Simulator) as well as a suit of techniques intended to teach airway management in the presence of server contamination by blood and regurgitated material.
Stuart McVicar, RRT, FP-C, CCEMT-P has over 33 years of EMS, critical care transport, & respiratory therapy experience. He currently works as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, Advanced Practitioner Transport RT Pediatric/Neonatal Transport Program at American Family Children's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He regularly presents at regional and national pediatric and transport medicine symposiums. Stu's ground and flight paramedic experiences, combined with his respiratory therapy background, give his presentations a truly unique and insightful perspective.
Dr. Keith L. Mausner attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors and as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed residency training in emergency medicine, where he served as chief resident, and a fellowship in EMS at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is board certified in emergency medicine, and a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. He served four years on active duty as a physician in the United States Air Force, and practiced emergency medicine in New Mexico and Wisconsin. He served as State EMS Medical Director in New Mexico, and has served as medical director of multiple EMS agencies. Currently, he is Adjunct Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he has a leadership role in quality management and education with Flight For Life of Wisconsin. Dr. Mausner’s primary professional interests are emergency medicine and EMS quality management, error reduction, education, patient and provider safety, engagement and well-being, and Just Culture.
Jennifer Pfister is currently practicing pediatric Critical Nurse Practitioner and Transport team Clinical Educator with the Children’s WI Transport Team. She performs a transport medicine lecture as a guest master’s lecturer for Marquette University. She has authored numerous nationally published abstracts and publications.
Dr. Thomas Grawey received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Arts in Music from Loyola University Chicago in 2010. While at Loyola, he was the founder of the on campus collegiate EMS system and received the Damen Award for his work with this organization. He completed his Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2014 at Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine where he was on the national board for the Student Osteopathic Medical Association. After medical school he completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he served as chief resident. He completed his fellowship in EMS Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in June of 2017 and is currently an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine. Besides working clinically in the Emergency Department at Froedtert Hospital, he is Assistant Medical Director for Milwaukee County's Office of Emergency Management and EMS Medical Director at Gateway Technical College. His academic interests include pre-hospital provider education, the clinical decision-making process, patient safety and quality improvement.
Dr. Christopher George, MD ‘CJ’ is an Emergency Medicine Specialist in Summit, WI and has over 22 years of experience in the medical field. He graduated from Loyola University, School of Medicine medical school in 1999. He is affiliated with Aurora Medical Center Summit.
Tyler Christifulli is a flight paramedic for LifeLink III in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is the co-creator of FOAMfrat & Studio LMS. Tyler is focused on innovating the ways in which we teach emergency and critical care medicine.
Eric Furbee worked as a paramedic for 11 years with both pre-hospital and critical care interfacility transports experience. Eric has been a registered respiratory therapist for six years, and an Army Flight Paramedic for 8 years with a combat deployment to Afghanistan. He is a Staff Sergeant full-time Standardization Instructor / Flight Paramedic for the Wisconsin Army National Guard on both UH-60 Blackhawks and UH-72 Lakotas.
Kevin Young, BS, NRP, FP-C has been involved in EMS since 2008. He has held various roles in this time, including: Firefighter/Paramedic, Critical Care Transport Paramedic, Emergency/Critical Care tech, and EMS educator. He has been a Flight Paramedic with Flight For Life since 2015, where he is involved in education, standards and practice, and new-employee orientation. Kevin is active in research, with particular interest in prehospital trauma care and trauma system triage.
Ryan Gauthier has been a nationally registered Paramedic for 25 years working in a variety of private, hospital based, emergency department and HEMS. For the past 14 years he has been with Flight For Life as a Flight Paramedic completing over 950 patient transports. Ryan has also presented at numerous national conferences within the past year.
Lisa Heinz RN since 1990 ED nurse x 31 years Trauma Program Coordinator at an ACS Verified Level II Trauma Center for past 12 years former flight nurse – WI, Illinois and Montana for a combined total of 23 years.
Al Davies first started as an EMT in Arizona in 1987, then moving on to Nursing, and eventually focusing on EMS and Emergency Management training for over 20 years.
