"Keeping Rainscreens Tight -- From the Installer's Perspective"
Session Description: Building construction involves a complex assembly of products and execution provided from numerous sources. Our specifications usually include warranty requirements to ensure those who supply and install each element have an interest in the long term performance of the assembly. Warranties however are typically instruments to limit the provider's liability rather than a guarantee of the performance of the building systems. Rather than aligning interests with the need of the Owner to have a building that performs, warranties often absolve participants of all but very narrow responsibility. This session will show what options there are in specifying complete system warranties and how these can be used to incentivize all participants with accountability for the outcome.
Session Learning Objectives:
1. Attendees will examine how warranty language limits the liability of the provider rather than protecting the interests of the Owner.
2. Attendees will discover the difference between product, installation and system warranties and how they relate to building performance.
3. Attendees will breakdown how to specify system warranties and language that can be used to ensure higher quality construction.
4. Attendees will discuss the barriers to implementing and obtaining system warranties and how they can be overcome.
About Our Speaker - Cory Robbins
Cory Robbins is head of business development for EDA Contractors, Inc. based in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Cory also serves as Vice President of the Philadelphia Chapter of CSI. He has been working in the construction industry for just over 2 years. Prior to his experience in the industry, he traveled the country as a Software Trainer for LSAC for eight years, while dabbling as a consultant in online learning creation for LSAC and PMI. Personally, Cory is a devoted husband and father of two and die-hard Philadelphia sports fan. He has provided over 40 AIA/HSW presentations for architectural firms around the Mid-Atlantic and presented "Design on the Delaware" in 2016 as well as presented nationally for LSAC for representatives from over 200 law schools.
