Come and learn about the Day of the Dead traditions throughout Native Nations (Pueblos Originarios) of Mexico. This lecture will primarily focus on the Native cosmo-visions around death in Mexico. Our speaker, Sociologist Victor Flores Escareño, will discuss culturally appropriate ways to understand Native groups of Mexico and honor their traditions.

This event begins promptly at 6pm Pacific Time. Lecture will be up to 45 minutes with time for questions and interactions with our speaker. We will allow time for all questions to be answered after the lecture series. Closing time will be no later than 7:15pm. April Mayorga is a Bilingual Latina Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Mental Health Advocate. April helps individuals become empowered and rediscover themselves through a mindful and culturally sensitive approach. She has provided workshops in mindfulness techniques, culture, and mental health advocacy.
Victor Flores Escareño is a Mexican Cultural Researcher and Expert in Mexican Traditions. He grew up in the State of Nayarit, Mexico where he was exposed and learned the Practices and Traditions from his Mix-Native Traditions. At the age of 6 years, he was introduced by Family Members and Neighbors into the Healing Arts and Curanderismo Practices of his Community which he mastered during his adolescence. In the past 20 years, Victor has traveled throughout México exploring and learning the History, Cosmovisions, Culture and Traditions from many Native Nations, Afro-Mexican Communities and Mestizo Communities. In the past 20 years, he has promoted what he has learned through lecturing, facilitating Healing Arts Workshops, Teaching the Dances from his Native Traditions, and Displaying and performing Curanderismo practices in different Educational institutions, Community Centers, Cultural Fairs, Art Fairs and Community Gardens.
