All too often issues of who gets to say what and the practice of mindfulness and intentionality become quite muddled when in a classroom setting. I think it is quite detrimental to our community to make space for awareness of these issues that can take many many forms. I hope to lead this session with a partner. I envision it to be a space where we are able to present helpful examples/reflections of these complex moments, deconstruct some to gain some understanding of how to approach similar instances in the future and put together some things to add to a list of classroom etiquette guidelines/expectations I am currently trying to put together. Student Leader: Marley-Rose Liburd
The focus of the workshop will be reflecting on the wants and needs of the students at the college and restructuring/reframing the course schedule so that it may reflect the needs of all existing students. Student Leaders: Suzie Rejali & Rojay Bryan
International students will be reflecting on their experiences and sharing that with the audience. While they may have a good idea of what to talk about, I am seeing possibilities of spontaneous réalisations happening during this exchange that will lead to elaborate solutions and insight to help rebuild the relationship between the international students’ community and the college at large. The end goal to me is to improve the infrastructure available and bring improvements to the community's health as a whole. Student Leader: Jullian Androkae
Helping to educate people about what it is like to be at Bennington (and in academia generally) as a neuroatypical person or a person with a learning disability. The goal is that by teaching people about the vast range of experiences of disabled people those without disabilities will be more informed and more likely to seek out knowledge in the future, making all spaces more accessible for everyone around them. Student Leader: Phoenix Stoddard
This session functions as a discipline-specific microcosm of the conference at large. So, in that, the themes of the conference are directly addressed but within a particular lens, Drama. I hope to create a space in which reflection and sharing community can aid in the reconstruction of some of the institutions of the department that don’t represent the student body’s needs anymore. Student Leader: Kaiya Kirk
This workshop will take a theoretical perspective of the co-dependent relationship between socioeconomic class and class-tension dynamic and interpersonal acts of bias and prejudice. Rebuild: Understanding interpersonal This workshop will take a theoretical perspective of the co-dependent relationship between socioeconomic class and class-tension dynamic and interpersonal acts of bias and prejudice. Rebuild: Understanding interpersonal Student Leader: Santiago Torres
Affinity Space - “Say It Like It Is” for international students (this will be a space for international students to have open discussions about their experience of adapting to the American culture, the American education system, being away from home, etc. - will include guiding questions and if there are enough participants it will be done in the form of “speed dating”) Student Leader: Andreea Coscai
This workshop addresses all three themes of the conference. The multiculti group is intended to host conversations about our own identities as multicultural/multiracial young adults. This safe space will allow “multi” to identify students to reflect on the similarities and differences between themselves and the other participants to build community. Finding and creating a multicultural community in a predominantly white institution is already a reflection of the theme of ‘rising’. Student Leader: India Carter-Bolick
Student Leader: Hannah Gray
This session will include a video where students of color tell stories about things that have happened during their time at Bennington. This is essentially a reflection. I will also ask some students how the issue was addressed and maybe some suggestions of how that situation could have gone better or ways the need can be addressed. Student Leader: Alex Briseno
Circle processes are all about reflection, reflection on your own life, mind, biases, and positionality as well as a reflection on the perspectives of the people around you. Circles encourage participants to spend a moment truly listening to hear, rather than listening to respond. Circles then allow participants to rebuild relationships and dynamics from the ground up, from a place of understanding. Ultimately, circles allow new, healthier dynamics to rise out of a sense of compassion, understanding, and accountability. Student Leader: Claire Webb

The Bennington College community is invited to participate in the first annual conference focused on promoting Inclusion as a Social Practice norm at Bennington. The conference is the culmination of creativity, advanced work, and collaboration on the part of student members of the Bennington College Community Builders (BCCB). Both as individuals and as members of distinct and intersecting identity groups, we have experienced first-hand the challenges and frustration of exclusion and bias. At times, we have witnessed expressed commitment to diversity and inclusion but rarely have these words yielded sustainable change. We firmly believe that creating a more diverse and inclusive community is important for the well-being of the student body and the success of the College as a whole.
The Reflect, Rebuild, & Rise (3R) conference provides an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to learn about experiences with bias and exclusion on campus, as well as to generate ideas for advancing inclusivity. Our concurrent sessions and keynote address ask all participants to:
