European Parliament, 60, Rue Wiertz, Brussels, Brussels, 1047, Belgium.

African Leadership Academy and Amjad Bashir, MEP, ask that you join us on 6 February 2019 at the European Parliament in Brussels for a Conversation on the Future of Education.

Many of today’s education models fail to equip young people with the skills required to become thoughtful and impactful leaders who can face the challenges of the modern world and work collaboratively to make the world a better place. Traditional models focus on facts, rote learning and exam success, as opposed to a comprehensive understanding of the modern world and the skills needed to become effective leaders. This one day conference will bring together global education innovators who are boldly reimagining leadership education and have implemented a number of successful models across the world. Speakers include Lai Cheng Lim, former head of the prestigious Raffles Institution in Singapore and currently the Executive Director of the Future Skills Initiative at Singapore Managment University; Tony Wagner, one of the world’s foremost experts on the future of education and the bestselling author of The Global Achievement Gap and Creating InnovatorsDavid Sengeh, Chief Innovation Officer in the Government of Sierra Leone and globally recognized for his work and accomplishments in the field of human augmentation; and Chris Bradford, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of African Leadership Academy, among many others.

We hope you will be able to join us for the day, participate in the conversation, and help to move this important work forward.

Please note that all European Parliament hosted events are open to the public. Please feel free to share this invitation with people in your network.

African Leadership Academy seeks to transform Africa by developing a powerful network of over 6,000 leaders who will work together to address Africa’s greatest challenges, achieve extraordinary social impact, and accelerate the continent’s growth trajectory. Africa’s greatest need is ethical and entrepreneurial leadership. Too often, we only invest in addressing the symptoms of poor leadership in Africa: we give blankets, food, and medicine to those impacted by war, poverty, and famine. But these efforts will never stop unless we develop leaders who prevent wars, entrepreneurs who create jobs, and innovators that develop lasting solutions to the root causes of Africa’s problems.
